A little history…….
I started showing, then breeding Shetland Sheepdogs back in New Zealand in 1978, and was introduced to Bearded Collies by Gloria Landon in the early 1980’s.
I was very fortunate to have owned two of her females prior to coming to live in Australia in 1985. Unfortunately I couldn’t bring anything but 3 Shelties with me at the time, and showed and bred these glamorous little dogs (making great friends along the way) until just two years ago.
It was a thrill to finally be able to purchase my first Australian Beardie in 1997, and “Ben” (Mavang Right Royal) quickly became my 1st spoilt “fuggles”. He did enjoy his time helping me to teach basic obedience locally, and always acted the clown. I was very busy helping to care for Twin niece and nephew babies, so never showed often or regularly, but Ben did attain his Champion Title without any problems. He is now in retirement as a goat herder on my friend’s goat/horse stud in the Country.
It nearly broke my heart when we lost our lovely home-bred and in Group winning Ch Stylyn Solyke Khan (“Khan”) (Sheltie) in 2003. I decided to try a different small breed of dog as company for our Twins, and was very fortunate to be able to purchase a Tibetan Spaniel baby from Mrs A Scott, named “Andy” by the children. The time spent with this little guy both at home and in the show ring has been most enjoyable and rewarding, and after numerous in Group and in Show awards, he is now an Australian Champion too.
We have since added to the Tibbie population with a NZ import male, another male bred by A Scott, and a charming little girl too, who all enjoy their life both at home and at the shows.
Added to the “menagerie” recently have been Turkish Van cats, and our daughter is now desperately trying to make more room for the numerous ribbons and prizes won at the cat shows. We do draw the line at this though, and will not consider showing the lovely Boer goats we have happily chomping their way around 2 acres of land here in the Glasshouse Mountains.
A diary of events…..
1997 Purchased Mavang Right Royal from Mrs B Watt. “Ben” was our very 1st Beardie here in Oz. It was a thrill to show him to his Champion Title, and he taught me a lot!
1998 Purchased Ch Glyntwood Bounding Away (“Sam”) from the Evans family. Sadly she only produced one litter of pups for us.
May 2000 Sam whelped her litter of 7 babies, (the “C” litter) including a blue and a brown, but only 2 black females survived. I couldn’t bear to part with either, so proudly showed both of them to their Titles, and enjoyed the many in Group awards they attained along the way. These girls were:- Ch Stylyn Celtic Belle (Cilla) and Ch Stylyn Charm NGrace (Grayce).
Nov 2000 Purchased Lothlorien High Plainsman (imp NZ) from M and M White. “Lachlan” has attained his Champion Title and enjoyed many breed and Group wins along the way. He has sired 3 litters for us, and has produced tricolours among them.
Feb 2002 We were thrilled to be able to purchase Ruatha Souls Quest from T and L Brack. She is a stunning girl, but sadly, has rarely been shown due to family commitments. This has not stopped her from winning breed and Group awards, and has only a few points to go to achieve her Champion Title.
Feb 2002 Our 3rd litter of Beardies! The “K’s” were all named after NZ places, as the sire was Lachlan and he was born in Kaihere. Ch Stylyn Kaihere HIT (“Chewie”) is proudly loved and shown by Laura Rafferty, and it was her dedication that took him through the shows necessary to attain his Ch title, with many Group and In Show awards. She has also won the distinction of taking one of Australia’s 1st Beardies through to his H.I.T. Title.
July 2003 The “N” litter out of Ch Stylyn Charm NGrace by Ch Lothlorien High Plainsman (imp NZ) has produced Stylyn Nancy Black. “Bloss” has had a very limited show career to date, but is certainly on track to attain her Title in the near future. She is a full sister to Chewie.
Sept 2003 Lothlorien In Middle Earth (imp NZ) (“Rudi”) came to live with us, thanks again to M White and her daughter J Gayle. He is a beautiful brown boy who is very sound and an extremely loveable clown. With only 12 points to go at this time, he will have his Title before very much longer.
July 2004 Ch Stylyn Celtic Belle produced the “P” litter of 2 tri females and one slate male. Happily all three pups went to new forever homes to fill the void left by old Beardies that had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. None will be shown, as they are too busy being companions to wonderful families, as have all “pets” from previous litters.
Jan 2005 The “Q” litter was the 1st that Rudi has sired for us. He certainly did us proud with 3 browns (like himself), one brown tri, and 4 blacks in the litter. Bloss was a very sensible and unflappable Mum for her 1st litter, with all pups thriving un-aided by me at any point. I am thrilled that as well as the male I have “run on”, three of this litter are in show homes, and have done their new owners proud by achieving Group or In Show awards in their 1st month of showing. The remainder of the pups are thriving in their role of companions in their “pet” homes.
Feb 2005 Ch Stylyn Celtic Belle had a lovely litter of slate and black tri puppies (the “R”’s) – again to Rudi. Unfortunately Cilla retained quite a few placentas, so after having her at the Vet’s she had to go on a treatment to prevent serious infection. Meanwhile I had to step in and hand feed the 7 babies while she battled with a high temperature and no milk. With a lot of hard work, these pups have thrived also, and I am proud to say that Stylyn Remington won Baby in Group for his new owner (E Wagner) at his very 1st show, while his sister (Stylyn Rambling Rose (“Rosie”)) won Baby of breed at her 1st show.
My sincere and humble thanks must go to the breeders of my lovely foundation Beardies, for without them I would not have been able to produce the sound, quality pups born here in the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains.
The pride I feel when a puppy leaves here to go to a new “forever” home is immense, knowing that these babies have all been raised in my front yard with our Twin children (and sometimes the Grandchildren, often here to visit). I still remember as if it were only last year how proud I was to own and care for a charming companion PURE BRED dog…..
